Germany Bring Back the 1990 Away Kit for Klopp’s First Game
The green zigzag jersey from Italia ’90 was back on the pitch in Amsterdam, on the night Jürgen Klopp took charge of Germany for the first time.
Soccer Changer
Some jerseys never really leave. On 24 September 2026, Germany faced the Netherlands in the Nations League at the Johan Cruijff ArenA wearing a remake of their 1990 World Cup away kit, the green jersey with the zigzag chevrons. It was also Jürgen Klopp’s first match as Germany coach.
What the 1990 away jersey looks like
The remake follows the original closely: a green base covered in a zigzag chevron graphic, a white wrap-over V-neck, the Trefoil logo and the vintage DFB crest. It is part of adidas’ “Bringback” line of reissued classics, and it had already been on sale since late May 2026 before Germany took it to the pitch.

Why the 1990 kit still matters
Germany won the 1990 World Cup in Italy, and the kits from that tournament, the home jersey with the black, red and gold chest band and this green away, became two of the most recognisable football jerseys ever made. Wearing it in Amsterdam, against the rival of that era, made the choice even sharper.

What’s next for Germany’s kits
This autumn also marks the end of an era: Germany’s 72-year partnership with adidas ends with a special farewell kit planned for the November Nations League games, and a new supplier takes over in 2027. We will cover it in the kit news.
