Messi’s Farewell Jersey: Argentina’s Sun of May Tribute
A giant Sun of May, gold details and Messi’s own logo: the jersey Argentina wore on the night Lionel Messi said goodbye to the national team.

adidas revealed the Argentina Messi Special Edition collection on 25 September 2026, a month after Lionel Messi announced he would retire from the national team. The whole squad wore the jersey on 6 October, in a friendly against Benin at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires. Argentina won 3-0, and Messi scored a penalty and set up two goals on his last night in sky blue and white.
What the Messi farewell jersey looks like
- Colours: sky blue and white, inspired by the Argentine flag.
- Sun of May: an enlarged, reworked Sol de Mayo across the front and the back.
- Gold: on the AFA crest, the numbers, the name and the trim, a nod to his trophies with Argentina.
- Messi’s logo: his personal “M” emblem takes the place of the usual adidas performance logo.
- Sign-off: the number 10 framed by laurel branches and the Sun of May.
- Fabric: adidas CLIMACOOL+, with engineered stretch and mesh zones.
The story: “a jersey for a lifetime”
Messi presented the jersey with one line: “Último partido, una camiseta para toda la vida”. One last match, a jersey for a lifetime. On the night, Nicolás Otamendi, also playing his last match for Argentina, headed in a Messi corner, Nico Paz added the second, and Messi closed the scoring from the spot in the 71st minute. After the final whistle he said goodbye to around 85,000 fans at the Monumental.
